We had a wonderful day last week at the eco gather We had a wonderful day last week at the eco gathering, joined by guest facilitator, Surge friend and transdisciplinary archeologist @_laraband, who lead us in making alternative nautical flags, symbols of hope and conviviality with all forms of life. This forms the first part of Lara’s involvement in the ‘Water Chronicles LIVE’ project artists and surgeons members @blancsceol are co-curating this year with @insola.berlin. The flags created will be travelling there in a couple of weeks… We used a resistance technique with mud gathered from the Channelsea. Lara’s archeological approach and attention to care and material had us working with materials that would otherwise be discarded - flours that had been frequented by mice and were no longer edible, and cellulose from one of those plastic freezer bags that come with food deliveries. We mixed these in with the mud to form a thick paste for mark making and help the mud bond to the fabric. We consulted Lara’s treasured copy of ‘The International Code of Signals for the Use of All Nations’ (1902 edition) to spell out alternative messages for the flags. Lara has been busy dyeing these with meadowsweet over the last few days, can’t wait to see there results! This project is funded by @culturalbridgenetwork

⭐️ NEXT WEDNESDAY 27th MAY ⭐️ River Rights lecture ⭐️ NEXT WEDNESDAY 27th MAY ⭐️ River Rights lecture & workshop At Loughborough University East campus, Stratford Part of #londonriversweek2026 We are collaborating with the Climate Ecological Transitions Hub at Loughborough University London (LUL) for a River Rights Charter event with the River Rights Network, as part of @thames21’s London Rivers Week 2026, for a lecture and hands-on workshop to explore the development of a River Rights Charter for the Channelsea Creek. We will be exploring the potential for a Rights of Rivers approach with a specific focus on the Channelsea community, getting inspired with practical examples, to develop a greater sense of connection with the river and assess the feasibility of developing a Rights for Rivers approach for other rivers. We’ll be joined by @joshlevene from the @loveourouse group. 17 councils in the UK have now recognised local rivers as having rights under the law, which is an amazing achievement for the @rightsforriversuk network and all those who’ve been campaigning around this subject for years. This weekend is our eco gathering on the Channelse This weekend is our eco gathering on the Channelsea river at the Long Wall Ecology garden. We’ll be installing a live stream box on the roof of the compost toilet to join REVEIL #13 - a live stream of the dawn chorus as it travels around the globe curated by @sound_camp - our stream will be broadcast at dawn on Sunday. There’ll also be lots of comfrey to cut for mulch for the trees, weeding, tidying, litter picking, chatting and tea drinking! Come along - link with info in our bio 🌱

🪲 THIS SATURDAY 🪲 Create a living dead hedge At th 🪲 THIS SATURDAY 🪲 Create a living dead hedge At the monthly eco gathering -:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-: Join us for a special eco gathering this month, creating a living ‘dead hedge’ for fungi, lichens and mosses to take root, a shelter for wildlife, and a rich food source for invertebrates. At this time of year we can really see all facets of the life cycle, with all the dead matter of winter slowly decomposing with the rain, as new green shoots poke through the leaf mulch. Creating a living dead hedge is a beautiful way to embrace and witness the new life that decay and decomposition supports, making use of woody clippings to create a new space for biodiverse life to flourish. ➡️Link for more info and to sign up in our bio 💚This event is generously supported by the Aspers Good Causes fund.
